Welcome to the cubicle—your very own padded corner of corporate paradise. It's where dreams are delayed (or birthed), emails multiply like rabbits, and the coffee is...suspiciously warm.
But fear not, oh determined one. With the right mindset (and maybe a secret snack drawer), you can make the most of your cubicle life until you're outta there. Here’s how:
🪴 1. Keep Some Inspiration Around you But Don't Decorate Too Much
I had a mentor tell me once, don't get too comfortable at work. This is not your home. Since then, those words have always stuck with me. I used to decorate my cubicle but over the years, I scaled down signficantly, especially moving to a virtual environment due to COVID. So, now, I'll say - add a couple things to your work space that adds some warmth but don't go overboard.
Hang an inspirational quote like “You Got This!” or “Is It Friday Yet?” Your cubicle may be beige, but your soul isn’t.
🎧 2. Curate the Ultimate Work Playlist
Music is the emotional armor against Karen’s loud phone voice or Bob’s aggressive keyboard slamming. Plus, music just makes everything better. Add the Bloom Haus Pick Me Up Playlist to your line up.
🤹♀️ 3. Master the Multi-tasking (Being Busy + Looking Busy)
Stare intently at your screen. Occasionally nod like you’re decoding rocket science. Keep a spreadsheet open at all times—it’s the corporate invisibility cloak.
Pro tip: Walk around the office holding a notebook. You now look important.
🍫 4. Snack Strategically
A snack drawer is not a want—it’s a need. Fill it with trail mix, gum, dark chocolate, and emergency gummy bears. You're not just surviving. You're fueling greatness. Drink your water.
🧠 5. Daydream with Purpose
Every now and then, gaze into the distance like you’re plotting your TED Talk. Or imagining a tiny vacation. Or just envisioning what IS your next career move after this.
👯♂️ 6. Find Your Cubicle Buddy
One person who makes the day bearable with memes, whispered sarcasm, and “let’s go get coffee” energy. This is your office soulmate. Protect them at all costs. Don't tell them all your business. Keep some things close to the chest. Let it grow naturally.
🧩 7. Make It Make Sense
Remember, this cubicle is a stepping stone. Or a resting spot. Or a plot twist. Either way, you’re learning, earning, and slowly becoming the kind of person who doesn’t flinch at meetings titled, “Q2 Synergy Sync-Up.” Maybe because you're running it ATP!
Bottom line: Your cubicle may have walls so to speak, but your mindset doesn’t have to. Make the most of where you are—even if it smells faintly of burnt popcorn and printer ink. Or someone's tuna sandwich.
Ok, yeah. Think. Plan. Bloom --> Your Way Outta There.
